The regular monthly meeting of the Oakland Heights Board of Directors convened in open and public session on August 21, 2024 in the Oakland Heights Conference Room. Notice of the meeting was made in advance thereof by posting in three places, one of the designated methods of giving notice. Minutes of the July 24, 2024 meeting were approved as distributed. The meeting was called to order by President Judy Schernikau at 8:30 am. A quorum was established with the presence of Randy Johnson, Rosa Schmidt, Kathy Rennerfeldt and Daniel Tanksley, Jr. Also present was Administrator David Deemer. Mr. Deemer was asked to present and lead discussion of the agenda items for the day. Oakland Heights is now operating in its 50th year. A community wide celebration event will be held at the Oakland Heights building on August 30, 2024. A meal will be available to the community from 4pm to 6:30pm. Displays of Oakland Heights memories are being assembled for the event. An invitation was extended to past Administrators and staff to attend and enjoy this celebration. CMS Increased the Medicare rate by 4.2% starting October 1, 2024 and issued more stringent penalties (taking effect March 2025) toward non-compliance regulations. We thank FOOF money contribution toward the new fence on the south patio at the Heights entryway. No deficiencies were found by Fire Marshal during Assisted Living inspection. No discussion was needed this month for delinquent accounts or risk liability. A motion was offered by Randy Johnson with a second from Rosa Schmidt to leave regular session and enter executive session. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. Executive session was entered at 8:58am. A motion was offered by Rosa Schmidt with a second from Randy Johnson to exit executive session and return to regular session. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. Regular session was resumed at 9:12am. No Covid cases to report up to this meeting time. Oakland Heights is currently a 4-star facility but will most likely be awarded 5-star after the successful survey results post. Current census is 38 and 17 in assisted living. Oakland Heights is needing a full-time RN/LPN for night shift, full-time nurse aide/med aide for evening shift and a full-time maintenance employee. Incident summaries were reviewed and financials were distributed. A motion to pay warrants was offered by Kathy Rennerfeldt with a second from Daniel Tanksley, Jr. On roll call all ayes and no nays motion carried.
