The regular monthly Board of Education meeting was held on Monday, December 16, 2025 in the Board Meeting Room in the Elementary Building. Administrators present were Superintendent Bland, Secondary Principal Burton, and Elementary Principal Rennerfeldt. President Anderson called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. and noted the Nebraska Open Meetings Law. Notice of this meeting was properly posted and/or published in the Burt County Independent by advance Public Notice in accordance with Board Policy #2008 with notice and advance agenda given to the President of the Board and all members prior to the meeting date. Notice of this meeting was posted on the school website and hung at the Oakland Post Office, the Craig Post Office, Oakland-Craig Elementary and Oakland-Craig High School on December 4, 2025. ROLL CALL Roll Call was called with the following members present: Marilee Groth, Brett Johnson, Dane Johnson, Diane Pelan-Johnson, Henry Unwin and Aaron Anderson. EXCUSED ABSENCES Diane Pelan-Johnson moved that Jon Dockhorn is absent, excused. Unwin seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. REGULAR AGENDA President Anderson welcomed 2 visitors. No one addressed the Board. CONSENT AGENDA Pelan-Johnson moved that the consent agenda be approved as presented. Unwin seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. Items included in the consent agenda were the approval of the December 8, 2025 meeting agenda; approval of claims from the General Fund in the amount of $36,508.60 and the Lunch Fund in the amount of $13,726.72; and the approval of minutes from the November 10, 2025 regular school board meeting. Dockhorn arrived at 8:03 p.m. TREASURER’S REPORT Mrs. Bland reviewed the information in the treasurer’s report. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS Elementary Principal Rennerfeldt gave a shout out to all the elementary teachers. Winter assessments will be completed and data will be reviewed next week. Principal Rennerfeldt reviewed the projected enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year. The current enrollment is 232 students, which is down 2 from last month and down 2 from last year. Secondary Principal Burton reported current 7-12 th grade enrollment of 174 students, which is the same as last month and down 14 from last year. Principal Burton gave a shout out to Mr. Selk and the coaching staff for helping our students work to grow each day. Secondary data days will take place in January. A list of upcoming activities was provided. Superintendent Bland reviewed the school annual report which is available on the school website. Mrs. Bland reported that one of the poles at the football field have been installed. The continuous improvement visit was November 12 – 13. It went very well. Mrs. Bland reported that due to unforeseen challenges in federal funding, JAG Nebraska is increasing contribution rates from districts beginning in 2028-2029.  Mrs. Bland concluded her report with a summary of sick and vacation days. APPROVAL OF POLICIES Mrs. Bland explained the proposed policy updates. Pelan-Johnson moved to approve the discussed changes to Policy 5003 – Admission of Part-Time Students and Policy 5066 – Early Graduation. Dockhorn seconded the motion. There was no additional discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. STAFF RESIGNATION Pelan-Johnson moved to approve, with regret, the resignation of Karl Lundquist. Dane Johnson seconded the motion. President Anderson thanked Mr. Lundquist for his years of service and dedication to the students and school district. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. PROPOSED 2026-2027 CALENDAR Pelan-Johnson moved to approve the 2026-2027 school calendar as presented. Groth seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. STAFF HIRING Groth moved to approve the hiring of Elizabeth Okereke as the Spanish teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Dane Johnson seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION President Anderson reviewed the results of the required superintendent evaluation and noted that the evaluation would be placed in Mrs. Bland’s official personnel file. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS Dockhorn reported that he attended the State Education Conference and encouraged his fellow board members to attend in the future. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS The Negotiations Committee has met and hopes to settle with the teachers soon. More discussion will be held during Closed Session. Groth moved to go into closed session to discuss collective bargaining.at 8:46 p.m. Closed session is necessary for the protection of public interest and permissible under law. Brett Johnson seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. Brett Johnson moved to resume regular session at 9:16 p.m. Unwin seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried.
