The regular monthly Board of Education meeting was held on Monday, August 10, 2026, in the Board Meeting Room in the Elementary Building. Administrators present were Superintendent Jessica Bland, Elementary Principal Becky Rennerfeldt and Secondary Principal Travis Steinhoff. President Jon Dockhorn called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. and noted the Nebraska Open Meetings Law. Notice of this meeting was properly posted and/or published by advance Public Notice in accordance with Board Policy #2008 with notice and advance agenda given to the President of the Board and all members prior to the meeting date. ROLL CALL Roll Call was called with the following members present: Marilee Groth, Brett Johnson, Dane Johnson, Diane Pelan-Johnson, Henry Unwin and Jon Dockhorn. EXCUSED ABSENCES Dane Johnson moved that Aaron Anderson is absent, excused. Unwin seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. REGULAR AGENDA No visitors were present CONSENT AGENDA Pelan-Johnson moved that the consent agenda be approved as presented. Brett Johnson seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. Items included in the consent agenda included the approval of August 10, 2026 meeting agenda; approval of claims from the General Fund in the amount of $69,454.31 and the Lunch Fund in the amount of $413.74, and the approval of minutes from the July 13, 2026 regular school board meeting. TREASURER’S REPORT Mrs. Bland reviewed the information on the treasurer’s report. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS Principal Rennerfeldt gave a shoutout to Robin Smith for all her hard work getting ready for the beginning of the school year. The elementary open house will be Tuesday, August 11th from 4 – 6 p.m. All 3rd – 6th grade teachers will be trained in IMSE Morphology to use in their reading classrooms. Mrs. Rennerfeldt reported that Jena Stoffer and Aileen Quintero have been hired as elementary paraprofessionals and Ali Beckstrom will be switching to a preschool paraprofessional. Projected enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is 218. Mr. Steinhoff thanked the Board for the opportunity to attend Administrator Days. Principal Steinhoff thanked Mrs. Bland, the leadership team and the O-C Jr.-Sr. High School staff for their guidance, support and warm welcome throughout his transition to principal. The building theme this year is “Be Intentional – Maximum Effort is a Minimum Standard”. Fall practice began on August 10th. Anticipated 7-12 enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is 168. Mr. Steinhoff provided a list of upcoming meetings and events. Superintendent Bland reported on the status of many of the summer projects. Mrs. Bland gave a shout out to the entire summer crew for all their hard work completing the summer project list. Mrs. Bland reviewed some projected budget numbers for the 2026-2027 school year. Mrs. Bland provided a list of board development opportunities and ended her report by reporting on her available PTO. NEGOTIATED AGREEMENT MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING Mrs. Bland reported that due to wages paid below minimum wage not being subject to NPERS, a memorandum adding that all pay will be at or above minimum wage. Brett Johnson moved to approve the memorandum as presented. Pelan-Johnson seconded the motion. There was no additional discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. ADULT FOOD SERVICE PRICES FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR Brett Johnson moved to set the adult food service prices for the 2026-2027 school year as follows: Breakfast $3.05 and Lunch $5.31. BUDGET HEARING DATE Pelan-Johnson moved to set the date of the Budget Hearing for September 14, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. Unwin seconded the motion. There was no discussion. PROPERTY TAX LEVY HEARING DATE Pelan-Johnson moved to set the date of the Property Tax Levy Hearing for September 14, 2026 immediately following the Budget Hearing. Dane Johnson seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. BUS BARN BIDS Mrs. Bland reported that only one bid was received for the construction of a bus barn. After much discussion, Henry Unwin moved to accept Anderson Structures’ bid. Marilee Groth seconded the motion. There was no additional discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-5; Against Motion-1 (Diane Pelan-Johnson). Motion carried. INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND Mrs. Bland reported that the Inclusive Playground Committee is close to reaching their fundraising goal. After much discussion, Pelan-Johnson moved to approve the purchase of the inclusive playground items with the intent that the district will donate the original $50,000 that was approved on April 14, 2025. If additional funds are needed, the Board will reconsider an additional donation to reach the $550,000 goal. Brett Johnson seconded the motion. There was no additional discussion. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS Brett Johnson reported that the old water tower and Skywave building have been removed and dirt work in the area completed. Sod has been laid. Brett thanked Mr. Anderson and the football team for their help with the sod.
