Minutes of the Burt County Board of Supervisors The Burt Co Board of Supervisors met July 8, 2026 in the Boardroom of the Burt County Courthouse in Tekamah, NE. Notice was given in the Burt County Independent, on a courthouse 1st floor bulletin board and on the Co website; proof of publication is on file with the County Clerk. The following members were present: Ted Connealy, Gary “Bird” Swanson, Samuel M. Titus, Carl Pearson, Jay W. Johnson, Paul Richards and Jeff Kutchera. The meeting opened at 9:00 A.M. with the pledge of Allegiance. Chairman Kutchera informed the public that the Open Meeting Act is posted on the wall. The agenda was approved. The minutes of 6/26/2026 Bd of Supervisors and Bd of Equalization meetings were approved. June office financial reports, Plan. Zone report, Fund Balances & Receipts were approved; Sheriff’s Quarterly Report and Treasurer’s 12 month Report were reviewed. OFFICE UPDATES (2): (1) Veterans Services – Penny Warren; (2) Assessor – Katie Hart Veterans Service Committee - member appointment: Roger Kirschenman was re-appointed for another 5-year term as the Decatur rep. Board of Equalization (BOE) was held from 9:15-9:22 a.m. Overvalued/undervalued property changes were reviewed and action was taken for (20) properties. Details can be found in the BOE board minutes online at www.burtcountyne.gov. FY2026-2027 Budget: The Board met with officials and dept heads to discuss expenditure requests for FY26-27; requests will continue to be reviewed, and changes may be made after seeing budget projections in July and August. ROADS: Ann Chytka, Hwy Supt C-11(456) CO.RD. L, E. OF OAKLAND – STABILIZATION & OVERLAY Chairman signed the contract with Western Engineering for the project; the contract was awarded at 6/10/2026 meeting. PUBLIC COMMENT: Gregg Smith – opinion about County starting discussions regarding a stance on data centers. The meeting adjourned at 12:37 P.M. Next meetings: July 14th Bd of Equalization.
