Minutes of the Burt County Board of Supervisors The Burt Co. Bd of Supervisors met January 8, 2025 in the Boardroom of the Burt County Courthouse in Tekamah, NE; notice was given in advance, proof of publication is on file with Co. Clerk. Board Members present: Ted Connealy, Gary “Bird” Swanson, Jeff Kutchera, Paul Richards, Carl Pearson, Samuel M. Titus and David Schold. This is Schold’s last meeting as a new term starts Jan. 9, 2025 for newly elected District 2 rep – Jay W. Johnson. The meeting opened at 9:00 A.M. Reorganization was held for 2025; Chairman will be Ted Connealy, Vice-Chair is Paul Richards. The agenda was approved. Minutes of the Dec. 26, 2024 Bd of Supervisors and Bd of Equalization meetings were approved. Reports reviewed: December office financial reports; Receipts and Fund Balances; Sheriff’s Quarterly Report and Treasurer’s 6 month report. OFFICE UPDATES (2): (1) Veterans – Penny Warren (2) Assessor – Katie Hart 2025 Depository Designations approved via Resolution 2025-01: First Nebraska Bank, Decatur; First Northeast Bank of Nebraska, Tekamah, Lyons, Oakland; and Washington County Bank, Tekamah. County Board Member Committee Appointments for 2025 were set. Burt County Website was designated as addl method of providing meeting dates, holiday closing dates, notice of meetings and other publications for Burt County business. Communications (3): (1) 2025 seal report -completed (2) IRS compliance reminders for employees meals, travel guidelines, etc; (3) 2025 mileage rates: $0.70 and $0.73 for civil process The Verizon bill was reviewed for cell phones and fleet tracking charges; 12 cell phones are being paid for by the County. Verizon fleet tracking (GPS) is on Roads fleet and the Emergency Manager pick-up. Department Heads and Officials are reminded that they are to be keeping track of hours paid for, time taken off, time used for sick/vacation, comp. time earned and used, etc. for the employees in their departments and for themselves. President Biden issued a proclamation on December 29, 2024 announcing the Death of James Earl Carter, Jr. and appointing January 9, 2025 as a National Day of Mourning. County Board decided that this day would not be recognized as a Holiday for Burt County Employees. Updates to the County’s network switching equipment (server rack) and wireless access points will be completed; a HAVA grant is expected to cover approx. half of the $8,100.00 costs. Work will be done by Applied Connective Technologies. Lot split was signed for MICHAEL UHING – 3.33 ac in pt. NW4NW4 of 30-21-10 & in pt. SW4SW4 of 19-21-10. Sheriff’s Fleet surplus property (2 Dodge pick-ups) will be sold via an online auction house and list “sold as is”. ROADS: (i) Ann Chytka was appointed as Burt County Highway Superintendent for 2025. (ii) A fleet report of Roads equipment mileage/hours was given to the board. (iii) Tim Farmer and Chris Lane from Speece Lewis Engineers provided an introduction to the company and services offered.
