Lyons Cemetery District Rules April 15, 2026 1. Monument companies must secure specific location where memorial marker is to be placed. A representative of the Lyons Cemetery District will mark / flag the location where the foundation and monument is to be set. The Lyons Cemetery District is not liable if the marker is incorrectly placed. 2. Only memorial markers made out of granite or marble will be acceptable. 3. Each stone shall be placed on a base that will include a "wash" that is flush with the ground surface and extends 5" from the widest point on each side of the stone. The concrete foundation shall be a minimum of 6" thick and supported by concrete pillars. a. The number of pillars required is determined by the size of the stone. One pillar is to be installed for each 2' of foundation's length. b. The concrete pillars are to be a minimum of 4" in diameter and installed to a depth of 4 feet. c. Vases are permitted only at the ends of the stones (not in front or behind the stones as long as they are placed within the boundaries of the plots owned by the family of the deceased. Vase foundation should be attached to the foundation of the stone. 4. Memorial stones / markers are the responsibility of the purchaser of such markers. It is recommended that stone markers be insured by their owners/ family. After the initial installation of the memorial stone/marker, any modifications to the stones need prior approval from the Lyons cemetery board. 5. Year-round placement of iron medallions and crosses honoring Veterans, Auxiliary, Volunteer Firemen & PEO members are permitted. Placement at the ends of the stone markers is prioritized with certain exceptions as allowed by the cemetery board. 6. Interment of up 2 cremations per grave space will be allowed. Interment of one cremation can be added to an existing "full" burial per grave space. Grave Decoration Guidelines ⁃ Planting of trees, flowers and shrubs are prohibited. ⁃ Artificial flowers may be displayed year-round when held in permanent vases located on memorial stone and not interfering with mowing or trimming. ⁃ Additional memorial flowers, wreaths, plaques, shepherd's hook, solar lights and other decorations can be placed on graves for 1 month following interment and during the following periods around holidays: Memorial Day - 7 days before & 7 days after Veteran's Day - 7 days before & 7 days after Christmas - 14 days before & 14 days after Thank you, Lyons Cemetery Board ZNEZ BCI 05/07/26
